Hello, Does anyone have any information on where I might buy a couple of Japanese Bantams - I live in the NSW Richmond area. This seemed the most sensible place to ask. All I have read up on these wee birds makes them seem a delightful breed to have as part of the family.
Regards,
Deborah.

Predicting colours is quite difficult due to the fact that one never quite knows what lies in the background of the fowls. If you are looking for a calculator to theoretically predict the possibilities, you could try: http://kippenjungle.nl/kruiskipkiezer.html
Hi, can anyone point me to a link or web page about breeding japanese bantams that will show what colours will be produced from a certian colour Rooster and Hen. Thanks
I put a comment on here recently about my father being John K Palin author of Understanding Japanese Bantams, a book you recommend - but I can't see that comment on your blog
That is very good advice, thank you. Luckily we live on acreage, but the way our houses are situated, we are closer to the neighbours than I'd like. I think I'll make the same "try for a month" offer to my husband, too, as he is a little unsure of a rooster! Will let you know how it all goes!
There are ways to minimise roosters crowing. A lot of people in suburbia put their rooster(s) in boxes and put them in the garage at night. You'd be surprised how quickly people get used to the crowing as the birds start at the same time every day (unlike dogs and cats and noisy cars). My suggestion would be to discuss it with the neighbours first, offering to get rid of the rooster if they can't get used to it in a month or so. Often this approach will do the trick. Some fresh eggs passed over the fence can also be a good way to encourage tolerance. Good luck with it.
Thanks for the info, I was hoping they'd be quieter than many other breeds, as I have fussy neighbours who wno't tolerate loud crowing!
Japanese males are no more noisy than other breeds. Mine are not excessive "talkers" in the sense of crowing. They are certainly quieter than Modern Game bantams!
Hi I'm new to the breed, and the site. I'm just wondering if any breeders can comment on how noisy Japanese Bantam males are? Do they crow excessively, are they pretty quiet, or somewhere in between? I only have females so far. Thanks for any feedback
Check out the notice on the buy and sell section re stolen birds.

If any breeders has some for sale please advise the secretary.

Hi All
I made a terrible mistake earlier this year and sold all my stock thinking I'd had enough of breeding and exhibiting - how wrong I was! Desperately seeking some Japs to start again. If anyone has any for sale, please let me know - marks68@bigpond.net.au
Thanks
